The Bluivance seal, an indigo stamp holding a b over 2016b2016

What we dye, and what it costs.

Prices are per 100 g of dry fibre or per metre. No hidden steps.

Yarn

Per 100 g of dry fibre. Wool, cotton, linen, silk or any natural fibre, and blends with no more than 20% synthetic.

ShadePer 100 g
Névoa 2 dips€7
Ribeira 5 dips€10
Noite 10 to 12 dips€15

Minimum 1 kg per shade. Up to 5 kg takes 3 to 4 weeks. Yarn that arrives oily or sized is scoured first at €2 per 100 g.

Cloth

Per metre, up to 150 cm wide, in linen, cotton, hemp, silk or wool.

ShadePer metre
Névoa 2 dips€14
Ribeira 5 dips€18
Noite 10 to 12 dips€24

Minimum 5 m per shade. More than 20 m takes 5 to 6 weeks; shorter lengths get a date when we book the slot, and most cloth goes through Rio, the quicker vat.

Resist work

Clamped, stitched or bound patterns on cloth. Every fold behaves differently in the vat, so we dye a sample of your pattern before we quote.

WorkPrice
Resist pattern on cloth any of the three shadesfrom €35 / m

Minimum 5 m per shade. Once you have seen the sample, the quote is fixed.

Garments

Overdyeing finished pieces for small labels: shirts, scarves, aprons, table linen, in natural fibre with no coating.

RunPer piece
By weight and shade light Névoa to heavy Noite€18-€30

Minimum 10 pieces of one style. Polyester stitching stays pale while the cloth goes blue. Some labels like that; tell us if you don't.

Sample card

Five shades on your own fibre, so you choose your blue on your own fibre, not on a screen.

CardPrice
Five shades on 50 g of your yarn€25
Five shades on 50 × 50 cm of your cloth€25

Ready in about 10 working days. Dyed in Pequena, the small vat kept for samples. The €25 is credited against any order over €200.

Névoa, Ribeira, Noite

Each bar is one dip in the vat. Depth comes from the count, never from a stronger vat.

2 dips

Névoa

The blue of a morning over the Douro, before the mist lifts. Pale enough to sit quietly beside other yarns in a weave.

5 dips

Ribeira

A working blue, the one most people picture when they say indigo. Steady and even, and it softens kindly with washing.

10 to 12 dips

Noite

Almost black until the light catches it, then plainly blue. It takes the most patience and adds a week to any job.

How booking works

The same six terms for every job, from a single kilo of sock yarn to a label's full run.

Minimums

1kg 5m

One kilo of yarn or five metres of cloth, per shade.

Lead times

4weeks for yarn

Three to four weeks for yarn up to 5 kg, five to six for cloth over 20 m, about 10 working days for a sample card. Noite adds a week. Nothing is turned round in under two weeks. Anything in between, cloth from 5 to 20 m or yarn over 5 kg, gets a date in our first reply once we know the weight.

Deposit

40%

When your job is booked into the vat calendar. The balance on collection or before dispatch.

Delivery

30km

By hand on Fridays, across the river to Gaia and out to Matosinhos, Maia and Espinho. Free over €300, otherwise €15. Tracked courier anywhere in Portugal and the EU, charged at cost.

Capacity

25kg a month

Or about 80 m of cloth, across every job. Larger jobs are booked into a month ahead.

Scouring

€2per 100 g

For fibre that arrives oily or sized, so the dye can reach it. It is added to your quote, not your bill afterwards.

What we turn away

Indigo is particular about what it will hold. These we send back.

  • Synthetic fibres, or blends with more than 20% polyester, acrylic or nylon. Indigo will not hold on them.
  • Any colour that isn't blue. No overdyes in other dyes, no greens, no purples.
  • Synthetic or pre-reduced indigo, even when you bring it yourself.
  • Exact matches to a printed swatch book or a screen. We match to our own sample card only.
  • Bleach discharge, stonewashing or distressed faded denim finishes.
  • Leather, and anything already coated, waxed or treated for stain resistance.
  • Jobs needed in under two weeks.
